Has anyone taken their rented car from St. Thomas on the barge to St. John?

If you're staying on STT and are asking about taking your rental vehicle to St John on the car barge for a day excursion, the only agency which doesn't allow their vehicles to go to St John is Hertz. Otherwise, go ahead and enjoy. It's a simple process other than that you have to back onto the barge but thousands of visitors manage to easily manage that maneuver every year with no problem and the ferry operators will help you out!

Yep, first time you're learning. After that, you'll pop right back up the barge ramp.

Very easy and so convenient! We usually use Amalie car rental. Nice folks and newer, clean vehicles.

Yes, we rented from Budget at the airport. Had a great experience!

That's the only way we do it. We rent from Avis at the airport kiosk. It's an easy trip to Redhook, you don't have to carry your bags all over the place and get taxis. I believe it's also cheaper than renting on St. John, but we do not get a four-wheel-drive vehicle. If we want to go somewhere on non-paved roads, we parked the car and walk. We've never had any trouble doing it this way. I would suggest only buying a one-way ticket for the car barge, as there are three different operators and you must use the same operator you came on to use your round-trip ticket. It's only about three dollars difference to buy one way, so you can take the 1st barge to show up on your return & not worry about schedules or missing your company's time. You can also pick up your groceries in St. Thomas, which some say is cheaper. We did not find much price difference the first time we came, but we may try it on our next trip. The last few trips, we bought all our provisions in St. John. Have a great trip.
