Dohm's or St John Shuttle?

We used Rachel last yr and loved her but am thinking about using a private shuttle this coming year. So Im thinking about using Christoph's land taxi and then water taxi. We have 6 adults. Does Dohms or St John Shuttle use a marina that's close to the airport or do both take you to Red Hook?

What is the difference between the 2 water taxis? Also it looks like it's approximately $10/per person to do this. Would love recent feedback on this. Other posts are pretty old.

Dohm's can take you from Crown Bay (which is a short hop from the airport) over to St John and avoids the long land transportation to Red Hook:

Rather more than $10 per person but enjoyed the typo!

Oops meant to say $10 more per person. So Dohms is $25/per person and Rachel is $25/pp too. So if Dohms can leave out of Crown Bayit seems like you would arrive in STJ more quickly. Also the added benefit of not rushing to catch the ferry and possibly missing it and waiting for the next one is enticing too. I personally think the extra $ is worth getting on the Rock sooner. Would love others feedback!!

We use Christophers and Dohms every trip. We go out of Red Hook. Rates for the land taxi is $75 for the first 4 adults and $15 pp above that. I think the water taxi is $25 pp with a slight ($10 total maybe?) fuel surcharge.

We like the service and have used it since 2005. For us, the convenience and relaxation benefits are totally worth it.

Another question and an important one... Can you have an adult beverage on the private taxi? That may make the final decision. Ha!!

Be aware that Crown Bay with Dohm's is $50 pp. If you use Dohm's Red Hook Marina location the rate is $25. There are flat fuel surcharges too. Speed can be six of one half dozen of another based on how fast traffic moves, and how the seas are flowing, wind etc. Same when comparing with the ferry because if you hit your timing right the regular ferry can be very fast. For me it comes down to style, comfort and maybe even for some if you like to have a beer in your hand on the boat ride over.

There is a stand right at the drop off where you can get beers. Or you can ask the driver to stop on the way. We always crack one (or two) open as soon as we hit the water taxi. The water taxi also has water on ice.

Oh wow... $50/pp from Crown Bay. So is it worth it to go out of there or get a private taxi and drive over to Ted Hook to get on private water taxi there? What is the taxi price from airport to Crown Bay?

$4 per person plus an additional charge for any luggage.

I would call Dohm's directly and ask them for a total rate, airport to St John. 340-775-6501.

Worth it? Heck yes! You're buying right?

I think the run to Red Hook in a taxi makes good sense -especially in a private taxi that can avoid the usual traffic snarls and make better time than a boat. For your group of 6 the private taxi should only cost you another 30. I think that's fair enough.

Dohm's Crown Bay fee is reasonable considering they'd be running the boat down empty from Red Hook and with potential delays of incoming flights that could add up to a lot of sitting around time.

Ferry rates vs. Water Taxi rates once you are in Red Hook? 7 vs 25 plus fees. How valuable is your time? How good is that first beer gonna taste? Hey, it's only money.
