Bare boat charter - BVI to St John USVI

We (6 girls and a captain!) are planning to sail (in November) from Cane Garden Bay to St John and moor for the night either at Caneel, Trunk or Hawks Nest. Any experiences with customs would be helpful. Also, which bay should we moor in?

For Customs you will have to clear out of the BVI --- and then into the USVI, at C&I in Cruz Bay where everyone aboard must present themselves at the office, you can down load the US forms ahead of time - easiest to pick up a mooring by Caneel or Honeymoon and dinghy into Cruz Bay - overnight depending on the weather and N. swell Caneel will probably be the least affected, although some ferry traffic can roll in on occasion, Hawknest can be fine , Trunk is usually fairly uncomfortable and rolly overnight. If you don't need the nightlife of Cruz Bay - Maho or Francis or even Leinster Bay are almost always very peaceful and beautiful.

You will have to clear back into the BVI, -- JVD or West End are the easiest and closest.

Usually the only reason sailors come into STJ from the BVI is to pick up passengers from the STT airport or enjoy the food, drink and provisions in Cruz Bay - C&I is not really a problem or especially time consuming but definitely a necessary inconvenience.
