Surprise airport charge!

Returned from Atlantis yesterday in the Bahamas. The airline rep surprised us with a $22 per person additional charge for Nassau Airport Development. The charge became effective 7/1/07 (the day we left of course). This was not included in the $15 Bahamas departure tax we already paid on our airline tickets. Our family of 4 had to pay $88 (cash ONLY) just to leave to go home. Ridiculous! Even the US Customs agent in the airport couldn't believe it. Just thought people should be warned.

same thing happened to us when we returned yesterday. however, we put the $88 on a credit card with no problem. Cash was never even mentioned. We flew US Airways

We were also surprised with this charge. We flew AA, but paid for tickets in Feb. Our departure date from Nassau was 7/707. The ticket agent from AA said that $15 pp of the fee went to airport renovations (one could only hope!) and $7 pp went to addiditional securtiy. We handed over cash for this added expense, but the AA gate agent said that CC's were also accepted. he also informed us that the new "fees" will be added on ticket price.

OOOPS!

Forgot to add, but the gate agent at AA said that tickets booked and paid for after May 1,2007 will have the added charges included. Don't know if it is true or not, but that is what we were told.
