Cost of food in the Bahamas

We are travelling to the Bahamas for a week long vacation and are on a budget for food. While we want to experience all that the Bahamas has to offer, we prefer to stick to beach bars and local restaurants. Do you think 2 people can comfortably eat for a week (8 days) with $1,000 (not including alcoholic drinks)? We are staying at the Sheraton Cable Beach.

Thank you for any advice you can offer!

That's about $60pp/day. If you skip breakfast or only eat a muffin, it can be done but just barely. Food is so expensive because almost all food must be imported as the Bahamas manufactures/grows very little food.

$1000 will be pushing it in Nassau. My wife and I usually take at least $2000 for one week, and we don't stay on New Providence. We go on to Long Island, we stay at a housekeeping beach cottage where we can cook most of our meals, and we still go through most of that money.

And you won't really get to experience "all that the Bahamas has to offer" in Nassau either, but I guess that's a matter of opinion.

One place you can enjoy lots of fresh seafood, pretty reasonably priced is the "fish fry" Arawak Cay. Fun little grouping of casual restaurants where locals and tourists alike enjoy lunch and dinner..

Thank you for the responses so far....any other restaurant recommendations for great beach bars?

And I meant "all that Nassau/Paradise Island" has to offer.

The reason for the food budget is that we are there to dive which almost doubles the price of a vacation in and of itself! :)

Have you considered staying at Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort as it is all inclusive- food, drinks, room, diving, snorkeling, etc.?

You may find it less expensive in the long run and not have to worry about cost of anything once you are there.

The all-inclusive is far pricier and leaves you stuck at one place IMO. We are booked at Sheraton. Not looking for hotel advice just food thanks.
