Looking for small quiet resort in the Bahamas

We are looking for a small, quiet resort in the Bahamas. We do not need a lot of nightlife but do like good restaurants and nice beaches. We DO NOT want to be anywhere near cruise ship docks or large, touristy areas. Snorkeling near the resort would be a plus. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Definitely choose an out-island. Exuma, Eleuthera, Long Island all fit your requirements well.

A few ideas: Hopetown Harbour Lodge on Elbow Cay, Abaco; Cape Santa Maria Resort on Long Island; Grand Isle or February Point on Great Exuma (although I would much prefer one of the wonderful private rental homes there); St. Francis Resort on Stocking Island, Exuma; Green Turtle Club on Green Turtle Cay, Abaco; Grabbers Sunset Resort or Dolphin Beach Resort on Great Guana Cay, Abaco; Abaco Inn on Elbow Cay, Abaco; Fernandez Bay on Cat Island; Stella Maris Resort on Long Island.... there are so many!!! Do some searches and see what best suits you!

But, fair warning, "good" restaurants are a matter of opinion in the Out Islands. There are a small handful of higher-end spots, but most other places are going to feature down-home Bahamiam food. Conch, conch, lobster, conch, fish -- in a myriad of preparations. Other than seafood, just about everything has to be shipped in, at a premium price, so keep your expectations in check.

I'll also throw in a suggestion for Fernandez Bay Village on Cat Island.

There's a beautiful spot on Great Guana cay, Abaco , very private on the best swimming and snorkeling spot of the big beach called Flip Flops on the Beach. There are only 4 cottages , 2 two bedroom and 2 one bedroom with really comfy extra firm mattresses and mahogany 4 posters and a gorgeous beach pavilion. I know some celebs have stayed there because nobody bothers them. Very romantic. Check out their website: http://www.flipflopsonthebeach.com.

Check out Elbow Cay in the Abacos. Sea Spray Resort and Marina at the southern end of the island has nice private cottages with views of the ocean, the sea of Abaco or both. The onsite restaurant is always open and the food and service are excellent. The chef does some upscale items as well as a great BBQ night for a very reasonable price. There's also a nice little tiki bar overlooking the marina. It's a great place to stop after a day at the beach. The ocean side beach at Sea Spray is long and empty of people, with areas of sandy beach and tidal pools. Tahiti Beach on the sea side is an easy walk for shelling, and swimming or snorkeling in the quiet waters of the sea of Abaco. The Abaco Inn also has good food and an excellent view of the ocean and sea. It's a short walk from Sea Spray. Firefly is also nearby and has upscale food. It's a favorite among the residents. Sea Spray, Abaco Inn and Firefly all provide transportation. Hopetown Harbour Lodge is also on Elbow Cay. It's in town at the north end, so there are more people on the beach and in the swimming pools, more stores, and more restaurants. Some of the restaurants in Hope Town specialize in fried food, which gets boring pretty quickly. Guana Cay has a beautiful Atlantic beach. But the north end and south end are not open to the public so you can't go there unless you're staying there. There are only a few restaurants on Guana Cay, and they all specialize in fried food.
