Getting Around - Arawak, Silver Cay

Can anyone tell me if there is a water taxi or boat that offers transportation from Paradise Island directly to Silver Cay, or Arawak Cay?? If there is, what are the times, days, it is available and how long is the ride?? Is this an acceptable ride for two children, 7 and 10?

We are hoping to see the Ardastra Gardens and thought we should stop by the Marine exhibit on Silver Cay and have lunch at Arawak if possible, but it would be a long day if we had to come across the bridge and pass through town in a cab.

Any reply would be great - thanks!!

The marine exhibit on Silver Cay has been closed for several years now, though the structure is still there.

It is definitely still worth going to Ardastra Gardens and the Fish Fry. There is no direct ferry to that area, however you can take the ferry to the downtown and then the #10 bus along West Bay Street.

First of all, I'm about 99.9% sure Silver Cay is closed, and has been for quite a while. The water taxi's run pretty much all daylight hours, usually from 9-5 and it is an interesting way to get from Paradise Island to Nassau. Once in town, you could take the #10 jitney to Ardastra Gardens and Arawak Cay, the home of the 'fish fry' and many local restaurants, is across the street. Unless there is a lot of traffic, a cab ride would only take you 15-20 minutes, which is by far the most direct way to get there. The combined water taxi/jitney, although less expensive, is not actually 'scheduled' times and would definately take longer.

Thank you for the great replies - you are right, it looks like SIlver Cay is closed (until someone buys it and starts it back up).

If the water taxis are not running anymore, can we safety take a cab from Nassau back to Paradise Island after having dinner in the city??

Also, you guys seem to know the area pretty well. Do you think we'd be able to accomplish the following in one day's time?

- Water taxi to Nassau in early morning (arrive 10am)

- Check out Potter's Cay (pick up some fresh fruit??)

- check out pirate's of Nassau

- Have lunch

- Check out the straw market and festival place

- visit the plait ladies store

- Visit the hair braiders

- see parliament square

- maybe visit queen's staircase and library

- Blackbeard's lookout (not sure where or how far away this is from Downtown or if we would have time)

- Orange Hill Beach (is this closer to downtown, or to Ardastra Gardens and Arawak Cay??)

Is there anything we should drop from our list? Anything we should add?

Also, where would be a good place in the area to have a nice lunch and nice dinner with a view? It would be great if the venue was walkind distance from downtown Nassau (or in downtown close to the attractions).

Again, any reply would be great - we can't believe how much there is to see and do in Nassau.
