The weather has been lousy this week, and will into the weekend, at least the current forecast. Last two days we have had non-stop rain with periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Nothing severe so far, but not beach weather by any means. Hurricane Barbara is off the southern Mexican Pacific coast and moving inland. Once overland it will weaken considerably. If there's anything left of it, it will be in the southern Gulf of Mexico, and pose little if any threat to the Bahamas. I wouldn't cancel over that. The sun will return eventually.

Way too early to accurately predict the weather here a week in advance. That being the case, the standard forecast for this time of year calls for a 30 to 60 percent chance of rain/thunderstorms, it can rain everyday a couple of times per day, or no rain at all for several days running. Can rain several inches two miles away, and you won't get a drop. This pattern and weather system we are dealing with at the moment isn't very common, but it does happen from time to time. All the talk about torrential flooding and tornadoes might be a bit of an over reaction from last weeks massive storm outbreak. Not saying it can't happen, just have the feeling the local weather people are erring on the side of caution. Yes there is currently lots of ponding on the roads in spots, and some flooding in low lying areas. But nothing at the moment that would leave you stranded, or in a shelter as a visitor. As far as tornadoes, those are rare here, they do happen, but nothing too strong, or anything close to what Oklahoma saw last week. Today has been a constant light rain, with a few periods of heavy rain...but no lightening, and absolutely no sun. The good news, the frogs are happy, my front yard is happy, and our electric bill isn't taking a beating.

Thanks, Rain here or there for an hour I can handle just worried about being cooped up in a hotel for a week with kids who want to get out in the water. This trip cost a fortune and just want to be able to experience everything to the fullest. When do you think we can get a more accurate future forecast by chance and are there any local sites you recommend to check back on. Weather.com has has the same forecast for 3 days...

Try www.accuweather.com for, IMHO, the best, most accurate forecasts. As others have commented on other recent posts, it is the rainy season now in the Bahamas and this year it seems to really be living up to it's reputation.

Trust us, we understand the concern over weather - especially when it's an expensive trip and a nightmare to think of how much you will lose if you cancel. However, it's the ONE area we have no control over and also the ONE area where forecasts are almost impossible. You do not say which island you are staying on? As wwbev reports steady rain all day today. Andros has had steady and often heavy periods of rain all day for the last 2 days. You will find that conditions are very different in different islands, and even different parts of each island.

Most of us will only ever look at the 2-3 day forecasts, and even then sometimes with a pinch of salt added. Anything more than that is pointless. All indications are that this is with us at least until Friday. We only generally recommend guests canceling during potential hurricane/tropical storm conditions. I would wait until the last possible moment you need to make the decision - probably Friday.

It can only rain for so long, this should (no guarantee) clear up in the next few days, Still plenty to do, although I know everyone wants sun and fun. Wow, these weather related threads are getting more traffic the last two days, then when Sandy was tearing through here seven months ago. It's just some rain, no killer tornadoes, no people on the roof, no visitors in shelters. Raining pretty good right now on Cable Beach, but it only lasts a few minutes. Frogs are loving it, my front yard is loving it, and we are loving not having to rub the AC. Trust me, the sun will shine again real soon.

Thanks, I have resigned myself to the fact that I cannot change mother nature nor can I change this trip so if it rains I'll just have to stay in the casino and the spa alllll day....that would be terrible :) .....Sun please come out!!!
