Is there anywhere to rent a cell phone in the Nassau airport or at the Atlantis? I was thinking the airport would be a little cheaper than Atlantis..... :-/

Not rent, but it's easy enough to buy a cheap phone, a SIM card and put some minutes. You can also buy data cards that give internet access through your smart phone. The best way to phone back to the US is via calling cards sold locally.

keep in mind that renting a phone (or buying a sim card) does not include minutes.

You still have to purchase BTC minutes to use your phone.

Local phone calls are cheap, but calling back home will still cost you about a dollar a minute.

BTW, if you purchase a sim card in the Bahamas at the local BTC store (located near The Hilton).. it's only $10. You just need an unlocked phone (ATT, or T mobile compatible).

Hi, its Rico from Pocketwifibahamas.com (<--- disclaimer based on Tripadvisor community guidelines)

There are two options for visitors in this case 1) purchase or use your unlocked phone (make sure it is the correct frequency) and get a cab/walk over to the local BTC store and purchase a SIM card where you can add minutes and purchase data. BTC is the only cell phone company in the Bahamas. There is a store near the Hilton downtown, but none on Paradise Island or Cable Beach. 2) You can rent a Bahamian cell phone or mobile wifi device (online) thats all set up and loaded with minutes & data. The phone or wifi device would be delivered to your house via USPS before you leave for vacation. Some folks want immediate access to phone/internet - as of the time they arrive. Others, staying on PI for example, don't want to incur the cost of cabs to BTC stores. This is a viable solution in those cases

Rico is right.. you'll need an unlocked phone on the correct frequency. Good thing is, most every personal cell phone has this frequency (1900mhz). If you're phone uses a sim card and is unlocked, you won't have a problem.

Skype requires Internet access to operate. If the internet speed is fast enough, you can use Skype from any location.
