Comfort Suites... Pay for room with cash??

Hi, I will be staying at the comfort suites in the spring for 11 days..... I see that there will be a 3% foreign transaction fee if I pay for our room with a credit card. 1.)Do you pay for your room when you check in? I don't want to be responsible for all that money our entire stay. 2.)Do they still require a credit card to be on file when you check it? Last I know I will only be saying about $75-$80 by paying with cash....3.)Do you think it's unreasonable to be carrying that much cash with me?

Every time I stay at C.S. I pay with cash. At

check-in I pay for my room with a wad of

$100's. I then put the remainder of my

spending cash in the room safe and use

it as my personal ATM. You do NOT have

to give them a card at check-in. But, if you

pay cash they will stamp your C.S. ID card

"CASH PAYING GUEST". This means you

cannot charge anything at Atlantis to your

room. To get around this obstacle, buy an

Atlantis gift card and use it to pay for food

and drink by the pools/slides. No one will

know you have a wad of cash on you but you.

It works great for me every visit. I save

around $50 by paying cash. Why make the

banks any richer?

Hi, thanks for the information. Are the areas around the pools/slides the only places that you HAVE to use a room card or an Atlantis gift card?? Also, are their any fees associated with purchasing an Atlantis gift card? One more thing, have you ever paid for you room with cash & then gave them a credit card to put on file, so you could charge things back to your room for example at the areas that only allow charge back to your room(There would only be minimal use)..............is that even something you can do???

Most of the food venues by the pool are NO CASH places, so some sort of charge/gift card is required.

I have paid cash to settle my bill at check-out (a particularly good trip in the casino). They took the cash and did not charge my CC.

Finally, not all credit cards have the fees. The thing to look for is if you card has a foreign COUNTRY, foreign CURRENCY, or foreign CONVERSION fee. If your agreement says COUNTRY, then then there will be a fee. Otherwise, there shouldn't be one.

There are many reports on this board of Capital One cards not having fees in the Bahamas because everything is charged in US dollars.

I can personally confirm that my American Express cards have not charged me a fee for Bahamian purchases in US dollars. The precise language on AmEx's website is:

"Foreign Transaction: 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars"

Outside of the pools/slides area at Atlantis

you can pay with cash or credit cards at the

shops and food establishments there.

If you pay cash at check-in at C.S., as I said

above, your ID card will be stamped "cash

paying guest". This means you cannot use

it by the pools to charge back to your room.

The gift cards have no fees. A $25 card cost

$25.

We use TD Bank and they do not charge the international fee. A lot of banks and credit card companies do, but not all. Ask your bank and get it in writing just to be on the safe side.
