Trip Report Aug 1-Aug 6.

Just returned from our trip to Atlantis. There were four of us, H, 18 year-old, 14 year-old and me. Atlantis is an amazing place and it reminds me very much of being at Disney World, a tourist attraction that is crowded with adults and children everywhere. The beaches are great and we were at the cove beach the most of time. We did some snorkeling and were glad we brought our own gears although they leaked. So don’t buy the snorkel gears from Wal-Mart! The boys enjoyed all the rides. My favorite pool is the one by Beach Tower which is so much quieter and not many teenagers around. (Yup we are parents of teenagers and we don’t see our kids much during the day)

Hotel: We stayed at Coral Tower (Room 4330). We booked a “water view” room but our view is half blocked by the library and can only see ocean behind the palm trees at the other half of the view. The AC unit is extremely loud above our head. During the day we could hear the woofer sound from the pool and there was music playing from somewhere up to early the morning one night. Tip: Request higher floor and don’t stay at #4330 in Coral Tower!

Food: We had complimentary breakfast with our hotel package and ate at MarketPlace every morning. It is good and has great selections of food to choose from. Breakfast is available until 12 noon and we usually got there between 9:30 -10:00 AM. Line is long and expects to wait for at least 20 minutes to be seated. The only day that we got seated right away was Saturday. Because we ate late so we skipped lunch and had snacks brought from home in the afternoon. For dinner we ate at Marina Pizza (Great!), Murray Deli (H and I shared a tasteless French Dip, Bimini Road, Shark Bite Express (get there before it closes at 5:30 pm) and had Domino Pizza delivery one night. We had only water for beverages and total cost for above 5 meals for four of us was around $220. We had a few cocktails at pool/ocean side and lounge. Each cocktail is $10.50 and up (15% tips included). We brought our own water to drink. I did not see any family bring own cooler when we were there.

We went to Straw Market by water taxi and from there walked to Pirate Museum one morning. The admission for Pirate museum is $12/pp for adult and $6 for my 14-year-old. Something to do but was not worth the money IMHO.

We saw the parade at Marina Village on Wednesday night and it was a lot fun. There were live music playing in the lobby of Coral Tower on Thursday and Friday night from 9:00 to 9:45 pm. Good music! Went to movie theater one night and saw Source Code. I visited all the lagoons and they are truly wonderful. We saw the Manta Ray at the Dig which was a great experience. There are plenty of things to do at Atlantis at all hours. I felt I never left the U.S. because everything in Atlantis is much Americanized. It is a good place for my family because my teenager boys could run around to do the things they wanted to do, but not a great vacation spot as far as culture and relaxation go.

Great report! Thanks for sharing. Agree that it reminded me of Disney (clean, well run and friendly employees)! We found the beach tower pool on our last day. Only about 10 people there. Great! (Don't tell anyone else...lol) :)

Trip Report-Part 2

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that as big as Atlantis is the place is kept well clean especially the restrooms are always neat and air-conditioned. Yes it helped a lot when I did some research before the trip. Thanks to all of the advice here on TA.

Weather: Temp was at 90s. We were grateful that tropical storm Emily was downgraded. We had a couple heavy rains on Friday (Aug 5) afternoon and each lasted about 30 min or so. During that time, there were people in the ocean and none of the slides were closed. It was cloudy and rained Saturday morning but it was our departure day so really did not matter that much. My younger son went to check out the Power Tower and said there were less people waiting on lines.

Aquaventure: Husband and I are not roller coaster people but we liked The Current/Rapid River and the Serpent Slide (ends in a shark tank tunnel before into the pool) . Single or double tube is required for these two rides. The Lazy River by the Beach Tower is much slower than The Current but is very relaxing. We noticed the towel hub by Coral Towers had less people waiting and got our wrist bands from there most of time. We did not do any Dolphin activities because we have done them at Cozumel before, however, we did walk to Dolphin Cay to see what it’s like but there was no activities going on. It was a long walk to get there.

Reef/Cove: H and I took the shuttle to the Reef Tower one morning. Wow it is very nice. There were few people at the Paradise Beach (the beach between Cove and Reef)and plenty of “unoccupied” chairs with canopies available. The lounge chairs are padded and we sat there for a while to enjoy the quietness and the ocean. We were hoping we could walk back by going thru Cove but the guard stopped us by the Cain which is for Cove guests only.

Check-in/Check-out: There were lines when we checked in. There was a family of 8 or 9 and half of them were by the counter and blocked other agents. My family and I had to squeeze in one person a time to sign the paper. We could view our bills on TV everyday and the final paper bill was at door in the morning of last day. We did the express check-out from our room. We did not have to leave the hotel until 2 pm and our request for late check-out was denied. The Bellman stored our luggage and we went to The Dig until it was time to leave. The Casino and Royal Towers were packed due to the rain on Saturday, Aug 6.

The number of days we were there was just right for us. I think it takes a day or so just to be familiar with this massive resort. We tried to walk a different path everyday so we could see all of the ground/landscape.

Once again, nice report...it's always nice to hear from an informed "newby"! I only say that because many people do not take the time to find out the good, bad, and ugly about Atlantis BEFORE they go.
