Almost all food in the Bahamas has to be imported. That adds to the cost to account for shipping costs and import duty on selected food products. Expect to pay up to twice the prices here in the USA and sometimes more depending on the type of retailer.

Is there is any food produced locally. Produce? What about fish/seafood? I would expect that you may be able to buy some of these things fresh.

There isn't much produced locally, and what is doesn't usually go far from the farm before it's sold. For example, Great Abaco has a large chicken farm called 'Abaco Big Bird' with a very good quality chicken at reasonable prices that they sell from the Abacos down through Eleuthera, but I haven't seen it in Nassau. The crops of local farms are normally bought up by local restaurants (or friends and family). There are commercial baked goods produced in the Bahamas and they're very reasonably priced compared to US brands. There won't be any good deals for groceries on Paradise Island because you're dealing with small businesses. In the US, you wouldn't look for cheap groceries at a Convenience Store. We've heard good things about Solomon's Fresh Market in the shopping plaza across from the Nassau Harbour Club on East Bay Street. They have a current add on Facebook with reasonably priced produce and locally caught whole snapper for 5.99/lb which is a very good deal. It's not easy to find fresh locally caught fish in the Bahamas. A lot of it goes directly from fisherman to buyer so local knowledge is needed to find it.

Thanks for posting the grocery list and prices, Dusty Traveler. What and how far is the closest grocery store from Coral Towers?
