Atlantis in one day from a cruise ship

We are visiting Nassau on a one day cruise stop 8am-1am in April.

We would like to go to Atlantis in Paradise island.

what is is best/safest way to get to Atlantis(family of 4 -2 adults and 2 kids) and things to do at Atlantis?

How to avoid ripoffs at Atlantis- do we have to buy a day pass

Please advice and suggest any must see things in Nasaau and how to plan our day there.

we have about 17 hours there.

Thank you all for for your time and advice.

It is necessary to purchase passes for Atlantis in order to visit there because there are check-points all over the place and only if you have a wristband are you allowed through. The grounds of Atlantis and the aquariums are lovely to look at but that takes only a couple hours so you want to schedule more to do on your visit. You might consider some combination of beach time, a visit to the waterpark, or an activity at Dolphin Cay. Your cruise ship will offer different packages to Atlantis but if they are too expensive, you might consider getting a hotel room for the day of arrival at the Comfort Suites. That would give your whole family admission to Atlantis and many people on these boards suggest it is cost effective. The best way to get to Atlantis is by taxi. (Don't take the ferry...you'll waste too much time.) I don't know how determined you are to visit Atlantis on your stop but I'll make another suggestion just in case you are interested and your children are old enough to swim. Bahama Boat Tours offers excursions that include snorkeling, tubing, swimming at a private island, fishing, etc. You chooses which activities appeal to you. The trip is limited to just your family which is the best part of the whole thing and you specify what time you would like to go. (Pickup can be arranged for the pier where the cruise ships dock and you would have some time to shop/eat in downtown Nassau.) Check out Captain Carl's website and his excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.
