Rain Every Day?

I have been to Atlantis in August and never seen rain or maybe a 30 minute shower. I'm coming down on Saturday and they are showing for early next week 80% rain? Seems high!

You were lucky. August is in the rainy season in the Bahamas that runs from around May 22 to the end of October. The humidity is very high with heat indexes sometimes daily near 110F. Today at 2PM the air temp. in Nassau is 91F with the heat index being 111F. With all that moisture in the atmosphere there is a good chance of a daily downpour lasting from minutes to hours somewhere on the island you are visiting.

While it may not rain daily the chance are very good it will. August, from a climate perspective, is the fourth wettest month in the Bahamas.

Typically, it does not rain much in August, unless there are storm systems travelling. This August has been more rain than usual however, so not sure what that is all about, but there have not been any day-long rains in the past couple of weeks -- just short passing showers that can be heavy at times, but do not last long, and don't cover the whole island at one time. It rained to the point of heavy flooding downtown last week, but there was not a drop of rain only 2 miles away. So it can be a localised thing. The downside to all of this, is there have been numerous power outages lately, which have affected the airport, and many of the hotels.

Our weather forecasters seem to be happy to predict rain every day, but the reality is that some part of the Bahamas, which covers a large geographic area, will get some rain somewhere each day. Odd are in your favour that you won't get rain where you are that particular day. It was supposed to rain today in Nassau. Nope, sunny skies so far for us today. So just come and enjoy your vacation!
