my trip to the Atlantis

I am just going to start out by saying that I had a horrible time....

Please keep in mind that I was working for most of the time, t the Michael Jordan invitational, but that still does not excuse the Atlantis or its employees. The best time I had was at the invitational, despite the fact that I was working.

Upon arrival I was supposed to be greeted by someone from the hotel with my name on a sign, I did not but I was told that I was still taken care of and a man drove me to the hotel. It was the scariest ride of my life and he was rude, didn't even help with my bags (my company was supposed ot pay for it, but didn't...but even if they did the ride would still have been horrible)

I got to the hotel and not one person was helpful. Bellboys? No where to be found. Everyone was rude and snobby and when I walked up to "guest services" to ask for a map,the employees at the counter waited a good 5 minutes to finish their conversation before addressing the fact that I was there.

There were little things like no ceiling fan in the room (no cross ventilation AT ALL), my views of a restaurant parking lot and people working on the roof in the building next to my room, allowing them to see into my room COMPLETELY. The only nice person I met that worked at the Atlants was my waiter at Fathoms, his name was Whitfield if I remember correctly. Ask for him!

I was also sick my entire trip, was by the time I got there so it wasn't anything I ate, it just made it all hte more miserable.

Keep in mind that I was working a lot, so I didn't really have a chance to change my mind. The beach was beautiful, not too crowded, but every 2 minutes my sister and I were harassed by people selling different items. "Skirts, dresses, necklaces, drinks, booze cruise..." one lady even sat down on my lounge chair even though I had said "no thank you".

I was just not impressed at all by the Atlantis... it was too big and confusing and there wasn't as much to do as I thought.

My cell didn't work (verizon) but I knew it wouldn't... I ought a 20 calling card to use at the payphone and the rate is 50cents a minute, not too bad.

If you have any questions, let me know. I hope your trip was better than mine!

It's sounds to me that you got the room you paid for, all the other stuff seems rather petty to me.You were sick & that's Atlantis fault?Your cell didn't work,& that's the hotels fault. PLEASE!!!

Blondie... sorry you had a miserable time. Some folks get treated well.. some don't.. you got the luck of the draw (not). You're right though.. they really should have thier act together by now.

Margate... I didn' t see blondie blaming Atlantis for either of those things.. quite the contrary..

People sometimes have a miserable time at Atlantis. Go with it..

It's a big disappointment for those who expect what's promised.

We shouldn't have to be reading the boards and accessing what the "truth" is.. Just because it's the industry norm doesn't make it right.

Alot of experiences are tainted when one doesn't feel well. We think people aren't behaving well and that lead us to think they are exceptionally inconsiderate or unthinking.

Sounds like you had a real lousy time and it is hard to know how much of it was contributed to because of

1.The hecticness of the event you were there to working for and all the other inconveniences added on.

2. How much was because you were ill and more sensitive to how you were being treated,

3. Whether having a better room might have made all the difference or

4. Whether Atlantis is just not for you.

You may have to try to go there another time when you aren't working and aren't sick and maybe stay at Harborside away from the main area and see if you like it any better or not.

I haven't been yet so I can't add my personal experiences until June. In defense of Blonde though, a lot of people have had the same complaints as she had. Most especially about the staff being rude and not so helpful.

Being there for work, being sick the whole time, etc. added to her aggravation--she just stated that made things worse, she even stated that wasn't Atlantis' fault.

I don't like reading a lot of negative reviews either and try to take them with a grain of salt. I automatically ignore the expensive comments, because we have all been warned several times. People just aren't getting quite how expensive a trip it is.

I am going there in June knowing I am spending a lot of money. Way more even on the hotel than we usually do and I'm not even attempting to budget for food!!!!!

But, I can tell you now, my comments will not be very flowery if I am spending thousands for a dirty room, rude and not helpful service, etc. For what I am paying it should be top notch all the way!

I have been to Atlantis 4 years in a row, and can honestly say that I only came across one person who was rude...the guy who woke us up at 11:30 pm to deliver a replacement remote for the TV (we didn't call for one) and did not at least apologize for waking us up, as he clearly had the wrong room. The Bahamian people are among the friendliest I've ever experienced. You get what you give...kindness and respect is deserved by all you meet.

Sorry her trip was not fun. I will have to say that I have read a bad review here and there, but........ we had a great time and were treated almost like royalty!! Maybe not, but almost!!! From the guys at the the airport , taxi ride, water taxi, Harborside, everywhere. It almost became funny how well we were treated. We decided it must be our "southern charm" and my daughters big, blue eyes. They just could not get enough of us!!!!! Oh well, whatever it takes!! I will say we observed unhappy people, but most we would decide would be unhappy just about anywhere. Maybe put on earth to be unhappy and make others unhappy. Blondie, I am in no way saying this about you, sick and working, but a lot of bad reviews are just hard to please people. That is why you have to read a lot of reviews and only go with half of what you read. I have always found if you are happy and nice you get that in return. The guest services desk were almost to nice and helpful. The towel booth, bartenders, the guys working at the pools, amazing. We went last July and my kids still talk about a lifeguard at the pool and the workers on the Powerboats Adventure. We did not enjoy the straw market. That was a little different, but even there we were treated very nice. Once again Blondie, I am sorry about your trip and we have all had a bad one. If I could have been at the Michael Jordan Classic that would have probably been the best also!!!!!

Dear Blondie;

When I am ill I just want to be home; staying at Atlantis isnt the place to feel better probably made you feel worse.

In their defense the resort was jumping that wkd, for us going for dinner and drinks was fun, you sort of catch the excitement ; but if I was sick--no way!

I have never seen the casino so busy. I think there was also a gambling convention of sorts, Jordan was hosting a poker party there, the list goes on.

We closed Nobu and this one young guy was so happy: he was loudly proclaiming his disbelief in seeing Brett Hull earlier; so he got another surprise for as he turned his head he realized he was standing right beside him.

Sorry you had a bad experieince.

Margate... where did you even get that I was blaming the Atlantis? Nice try but if anything I said it's not their fault...but everything else was. You really shouldn't be so negative and judegmental when your simply misread what I wrote.

As to everyone else, thank you for your understanding. Those of you that were treated well, you are lucky.. I couldn't imagine that they are rude to everyone, I was just so shocked that a place like the Atlantis that is so well known doesn't take better care of their customers.

It was just... a surprise that's all....
