How is the diving and safety on island?

I'm assuming one must wear a wetsuit at this time. What is the average water temp?

What about safety on the island? I read it's a bit dangerous. We'll be traveling with two young teens.

We always wear a wetsuit, a shorty will do this time of year. We use UNEXSO dive shop.

Most crime is local on local, rather than local on tourist. Are you renting a car? Driving is on the left, but not a lot of traffic compared to many islands.

Safety is not an issue, it is a very safe place for tourists. Of course anything can happen anywhere but it is very rare for anything to happen to a tourist on GBI.

Not sure what time you are traveling, so hard to give you an idea of water temps. I usually use a 3mm wetsuit, even in winter. Summer you don't really need one at all. Shorty is more than enough at least until about early December.

The island is very safe compared to other islands. Crime rate is low but of course be smart while you enjoy yourselves.

Most (if not all) dive shops will only have 3mm shorties available during this time. Water temp around this time of year can range from 75 degree F to about 84 degrees F. Also, you're looking at excellent visibility too, around 80-100Ft.

Have fun!
