Eleuthera Trip upcoming, a few questions

I am going to Eleuthera at the end of May and have a few questions.

Is there a guidebook out there that has more information than listing a few hotels and restaraunts with a map of the island? Anything at least dedicated to the out isles?

I have been trying to find a source to purchase "The elusive beaches of Eleuthera" since it has gone out of print.

My wife and I are avid divers and are looking for recommendations for SCUBA guides

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not found a guidebook that is helpful for Eleuthera. What little the books have on the island is usually out of date. There are some good guides and websites on the internet.

I bought Elusive Beaches from Amazon but I don't know if they still have it. You might contact Pam's Island Made in Gregory Town or Dilly Dally on Harbour Island and see if they would ship you the book, and they also both sell some good maps. I know of others who have had Pam ship to the mainland.

Sorry but I don't know any SCUBA guides on Eleuthera. There are probably some at places like Valentine's on Harbour Island, and probably Powell Point. It depends what part of the island you are staying at.

The Elusive Beaches is still available. It is updated--and double the price. $27, I believe. They put annoying icons over the writing, making it difficult to read. It does have good directions in it though, and tells where good beaches, snorkeling, scuba, etc. is. I don't think it is worth the price for one time use. We have them in our house for our guest use, so perhaps your homeowner provides one. You should check.

Pam's Island Store (Gregory Town) does have a pretty good map of Eleuthera, but last time we were there she was out of them (March). A guest took the one we had in our house. There is a website with good directions.

I've also seen the Elusive Beaches book at Banks Rd. Deli which is near Tippy's.

I like this website too - it's kept pretty up to date. However, places do open and close in Eleuthera, so you should call first before going to restaurants. http://www.bahamabones.com/amenities/

There are a couple of guides (including the one I pulled together) on the http://www.gotoeleuthera.com/ website. My guide is a couple of years old, so some of the info may be dated.

Although I doubt any of the beaches changed locations!
