April 20 seafood in season

We arrive for a week and look forward to fresh fish and maybe lobster. What is in season then? Also is there any crab around? Is island farm in full swing by then too? Any events beside fish fry? Thx

Lobster season ended a few days ago ... but there's fresh-frozen to be had. Stone crab were on the menu at Tippy's last nite. It comes and goes based on availability. Island Farm has been in full swing for a couple of months and will be when you get here.

Thanks, Dave! Mmm, stone crab. Is it possible to buy it from someone on island for us to prepare,at our house? Like would the fishermen have it? Also, we are thinking to have someone come one night to cook us a meal. We are 6 plus two toddlers. Would you suggest someone? I do have two names from our house also. Linda and chevette.

We are excited to return. My husband and I visited last year for the first time and of course fell in love. We stayed at paradise pointe. It was lovely and we enjoyed the sunsets. This time we are returning with a group making it more economical to rent kataluma on double bay. I just wish we were staying longer.

You don't often see stone crab claws on the retail seafood market. Occasionally, but not often. They're really not all that plentiful here and they require special treatment: The claws have to be cooked soon after they're taken from the water or the meat sticks to the shell.

This generally requires that they be steamed on-board, and not many fishermen are equipped to do that. The larger boats that are able to process stone crabs often have direct-supply agreements with restaurants, or contracts for export over to Nassau or Florida.

We do all our own cooking, so, sorry, can't help you out with recommendations on an in-house chef. Perhaps someone else can help, or you should follow up on the recommendations provided by your hosts.

Have fun ...

SkyBeach posted a list of private chefs that can be hired. Linda is on that list. www.skybeachclub.com/spa-chef-services/
