How does snorkeling on Exuma compare to snorkeling at, say, Virgin Islands? Is there any great snorkeling right off beach, or does one need to take boat out to get to reefs? Which resort has the best off-beach snorkeling (if there is such a thing on Exuma)?

Many thanks.

1. Re: snorkeling?

If you are looking for snorkeling I suggest renting a boat. The stuff off the beach is restricted to activity off of rocks. There are a few coral colonies scattered throughout the Harbor and some blue-holes that you can hang around the entrance. Minns provides a good map of the reefs when you rent a boat.

Mid-winter is not the best time to snorkel. It is quite windy and the bottom gets disturbed. Mid-March things start to settle down and it's very nice.
