Car vs SUV rental

We are getting ready to book with Thompsons but I'm not sure if we should get the Honda Accord or Honda CRV. We usually rent small SUVs as we like to explore the side roads but G Exuma seems flatter than some of the other islands we've visited. We don't want to get stuck anywhere. The Accord is about $140 cheaper for the week. Which should we get? Also rentals are more expensive here that what we've experiened on other islands so trying to save some $$.

As with Long Island, if you plan on taking the white roads (ie unpaved), then opt for the CRV, but with Exuma being a bit more compact and roads closer to the beaches, you may want to save costs with the Accord. It all depends on what you want to do with it. Personally, I'd opt for the Accord, as that will take you where you need to go. How many in the party?

Thanks Dusty, it's just the 2 of us. We are getting an SUV in Long Island for sure (Columbus Mon. Rd) @ $70 a day but I wasn't sure about Exuma. We do alot of exploring.

Yes, definitely SUV for Columbus Monument. The clowns who did the road did so without proper authorisation and made a complete mess -- hence the mess it continues to be. They put this road over private property and left trees, holes, boulders and the like strewn everywhere. It really did not endear us to the project after that.

Not sure you will enounter the same off-road conditions in Exuma. There aer turnoffs to the beach, but if you are careful, you should be able to avoid getting stuck in sandy areas. If it doubt, walking is always best. The majority of folks we see stuck on the side roads are the ones who don't want to walk the 100 feet or so to the beach!
