Green Turtle Cay in Sept?

I know the risk of hurricane is heightened (live in Southeast). Are we crazy to consider traveling during that time? Everything closed up,etc?

The Bluff House Beach Resort and Marina and the Green Turtle Club close the 1st weekend of September and do not reopen until the last week of October. Several of the restaurants on the island also close. If no hurricanes, the weather is great that time of year, but it may be quiet.

Lovely time to go but yes, very quiet, all the Green Turtlians (Green Turtlers?!? LOL) are taking their vacations then after a hectic August!

Have Fun!

The increased risk of hurricanes in September is true for all of the Caribbean so if you want a September tropical vacation it's a risk. In the Abacos, that can mean getting stuck there if you wait until you are sure a storm hit is likely. The airlines stop sending their planes right about the time you admit you are in the path. That said, the actual numerical risk is quite low. Pluses to September: The water is really warm and typically very calm. That makes snorkeling on the reef great and you can travel fast and far in a small motor boat on those glassy seas. You are going to have the already deserted beach entirely to yourselves. As the only tourist, you will feel like natives. Minuses: big afternoon thunderstorms are practically guaranteed. (for some that is a plus) Little wind to blow the mosquitoes away. It's gonna be hot!

Probably a good time to visit. We just got back today from a week in GTC. Beautiful and weather mostly agreeable. Natives not as friendly as we had expected. A few nice folks, Perry (lives next to the Wrecking Tree and his wife works there) and Ben Saunders (looks like Moses) were 2 favorites who give the place a good name. otherwise, we all felt cold shouldered by the locals. too bad since they surely rely on tourists to support their collapsing economy.

If you rent a boat, watch out for coral heads way before you get to the reef on the atlantic side of the island. they don't warn about that little hazard. use Donny's Boat Rentals. We used another outfit and wish we had chosen Donny instead.

have fun and good luck! Shop at Sids for groceries. it's the best market by far. Sid is actually friendly which was a bit of a surprise after the aforementioned experiences.

We stayed at Tranquility, owned by Richard Keller. it was perfect for 2 couples.
