as you come down off Rannoch Moor into the Pass of Glencoe there are at least 3 large parking areas with good views ... if you go onto the Ordnance Survey mode of a map website you will see them clearly marked ... I drove through there last week, and I think the one just after Allt-na-Ruigh was the nicest

If you want a cold beer with your picnic drive through the glen to the Clachaig Inn. They have picnic tables across the road from the inn

Racking my brains to think of a better spot than outside the Clachaig.

Aside from the Lost Valley itself I agree with thegoodwitch.

Ooo the Lost Valley. Great spot for a picnic although it's a steep 45 minute walk up. If you have time it's very atmospheric

With the advice in #1, it's possible to then walk a short distance along the old drove road, which leads to some quiet viewpoints overlooking the glen, but without the road in sight.

I agree with #1

I prefer my mountains looking down, rather than looking up! The old drive road provides marvellous views and you don't need to walk far from the car to get away from civilisation. Easy access point : http://goo.gl/maps/r9hMg - you are aiming at 'The Study'

Or stop and look at the waterfalls (two small carparks) http://goo.gl/maps/HECc8

Or Allt-na-Ruigh but be careful how you park as access may be required.

There are bigger carparks within the glen itself - views of the three sisters, or into the lost valley opposite, but IMO not as attractive as the view from the old road. http://goo.gl/maps/9wbiv - they tend to attract coaches and bagpipe players. But you could park and walk.

Although google does decent mapping, Walk Highlands is much more coherent. Go to www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/map2_11fw.shtml ignore the suggested walk, and zoom in, and pan slightly right.

(Or go for a walk :-) )
