Best lakes /towns for Sept/Oct fishing?

Missed my son-in-law's birthday last year, so to try and make up for that booboo I wanted to give them about a week in the Finger Lakes for some fishing and sightseeing. I know nothing about fishing, but I have heard them talk about fishing for Bass, Walleye, Pike and Trout. Additionally, they are food and wine folks, so it would be an added bonus if they were able to enjoy that passion also when not fishing. Any suggestions?

Will they be bringing their own boat, or looking for a rental?

Here's a good resource to help determine which lake(s) to focus on by species: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/32371.html If you decide on Otisco, Owasco and/or Skaneateles, I would recommend staying in Skaneateles. If you opt for Cayuga and/or Seneca, I would suggest either Ithaca or Watkins Glen. There are more wineries around Cayuga and Seneca. While renting a boat offers more flexibility on the lakes, all of the lakes have spots where you can fish from shore or from public marinas/piers. There again, Cayuga and Seneca offer more of those locations and staying in either Ithaca or Watkins Glen would allow easy access to both lakes.

Thanks for this site to read about the lakes and the info on adding fishing to food and wine. Do you know if there are fishing guides that you can hire around Seneca Lake?

Absolutely! Here are two that I highly recommend: http://www.fingerlakesanglingzone.com/ and http://www.senecachiefguide.com/.

I will give them both a call. Seneca lake looks the best and maybe finding a cabin on the lake to rent for the week. - I guess I should just contact a real estate agent.
