We are visiting The Epirus coast for two weeks later this year and will be spending a week in Syvota which looks stunningly beautiful and would love to hire a small motor boat to tour the coastline. But we have no experience of sailing or hiring boats. (a bit nervous!)
Does anyone know if you need experience and will they give you a short lesson.

82 reviews You don't need any experience. They give you a quick guide to controls etc. but I don't know if they would do more if you asked them - probably they would if they want your business.
Hi, Agree with steve, no experience is needed for the normal hire boats, and they are very easy to handle. If you are unsure they will take you round the harbour before setting out on your own, There is also a sea Taxi which will take you to nearby secluded beaches if you like, can work out cheaper than a days hire. Have a great time.

I am a professional yacht master and have sailed that area many times. Syvota on Lefkada is a lovely base to sail from. The bay is very sheltered and there are several other beaches to explore without leaving the bay. Be aware what limitations there are on the charter when you pick up the boat, they should tell you how far you can wander. I would be wary of leaving the bay, for example, navigating back to Syvota from say, Abelike because it is very difficult to spot the entrance to the bay from that direction.
