Sivota (Lefkada) Supermarkets

Hello, I am staying in Sivota in August and wondered how easy it is to get Gluten free products in the big supermarkets? Eating out is fine, but I would like a few essentials for breakfast etc..

Would be grateful for any suggestions, I don't really want to bring bread etc.. with me in my case unless I really have to.

Many Thanks

There are no big supermarkets in Sivota. It's a small village with just a couple of mini markets. If you have special dietary requirements I'd recommend taking the necessary food with you.

There are no big supermarkets in Sivota - it's a small village with just a couple of mini markets, some souvenir shops and a dozen or so tavernas. If you need specialist food you should take it with you.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I expected that the villages would have mini markets, but Is there not a Carrefour or AB on Lefkada ? perhaps in a town? I was in Kefalonia last year and had success in the big supermarkets there. If not, then yes I will bring bread etc.. with me.

Kind Regards

Hi Libby,

There's an AB supermarket on the edge of Lefkada town, on your way to Sivota. Assuming you're driving yourself to Sivota, here's how to find it: After you drive across the bridge into Lefkada town, turn immediately left and follow the waterfront road. In a couple of minutes you'll come to a mini-roundabout where you turn left towards the marina (just keep following the waterside on your left!). You'll pass the entrance to the marina on your left and the bus station on the right. At the t-junction, turn right. In a few moments you'll see a small Carrefour on your right, but I think the AB is your best bet; it's 50 meters further along but on your left, so you need to cross over the dual carriageway to get to the entrance -- it's got a big carpark and the supermarket itself has recently doubled in size (not sure if the new bit's open yet!) so basically you can't miss it.

There's also a small Carrefour Express in Marantohori, on the main road between Sivota and Vassiliki, but I'm not sure if this would be big enough to have your gluten-free products. This one is open on a Sunday, but the Carrefour and the AB in Lefkada town, and all the big supermarkets, are closed on Sundays. Some of them are trying to open on Sundays but it's controversial and unpredictable, so I wouldn't count on it!

There is also a supermarket (not tried) a couple of miles before you get to Sivota at the Poros turning. It seems a reasonable size so may have some of what you require, Have a good trip Libby.

Hi, There are 3/4 small supermarkets in Sivota so you should find everything you need for a holiday. Failing that stock up what you can't find there when you are out and about in the main towns.

In response to the earlier query about gluten free products I did note when in Italy last week that these were being sold in chemist shops so they may be a place to look as well.

I usually go September when the roads are pretty clear (in fact a pleasure to drive) but imagine that in late July/August they will be a little more busy but mainly near the resorts, especially Nidri and Lefkada town. That said watch out at junctions and beware the faded road markings!

Enjoy your trip.
