arriving in Bolzano

Having trouble finding good flights to Bolzano direct from UK in June so wondering how long it takes to get there from Venice airport by car and if it's possible and easy by train.

From Venice, it would take you about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get to Bolzano. It's an easy ride. Autostrada 4 from Venice to Verona, and then the Autostrada 22 north from Verona up towards the Brenner Pass.

The drive from Venice airport will take about 3.5 hours, and you can either go via the motorways (to Verona and then up) or over the passes, which is more scenic, but very twisty!

As an alternative, have a look at flights into Verona, Brescia, Innsbruck or Munich. The drive from Munich to Bolzano will take about 3 hours, and is straight down the motorway

Hey see http://www.colletts.co.uk/skyscanner.html they have details of all flights that serve the area - we found Bolzano and innsbruck too expensive and opted for ryanair to Milan Bergamo- it was very cheap at £69 return per person. I hired a car from the airport but there are good links to the train station in Milan and there are many train services going to Bolzano. The train takes about 1-2 hours.

regards..

There are so many ways to get to Bolzano...

You could fly to Venice, Verona or Munich and get the train (all direct journeys) Verona is closest.

You could fly Ryanair to Bergamo and get the Terravision bus to Bolzano (or rent a car, obviously)

Or you can fly into Bolzano from London Heathrow with Alitalia and Air Alps, changing in Rome or Milan. You can book the whole journey on www.alitalia.co.uk The fare is either £118 or £134 according to the flights you choose. Booking a long way ahead doesn't seem to affect the price much.

As you're in Oxford, and Heathrow is easy to get to by bus, this option might be worth considering because you'd save quite a lot of time at each end.
