Hi,

I don't recall seeing them in the airport itself.. but to be fair, I didn't make it a point to look either.. but you can very easily buy them from a retailer in town.. Most shops like convenience stores and such will sell the SIM's as well as refill services.

As far as what company.. (assuming you are referring to GSM carriers, as there are CDMA carriers here as well).. The "big three" in terms of subscriber numbers is AIS and their pre-paid service is called 1-2-Call.. DTAC and their pre-paid service is called Happy, and the third is TrueMove whose pre-paid program is called SmartPhone..

In the end, it's my opnion that they're all going to be far more similar than not in terms of coverage, quality and cost.. The only real issue that is not, as of now, uniform across all the carriers is the deployment of 3G service.. but aside from 3G coverage, the basics are very much in line with each other.

Most of the pre-paid services offered by the three carriers, come in different billing packages, so be sure you ask what SIM you're getting and the calling plan that's associated with it.

Lastly, regardless of what carrier you elect, you can still use one of several so-called "dial-around" long distance phone companies (companies who only provide long distance calling services) to route your international outbound calls through-- depending on country called and phone type (land-line or mobile) calls can be as low as in the single-baht per minute range.
