Great first Visit to Krabi

Thankyou to everyone on Tripadvisor!!!!

We had a great first visit to Krabi and it was a change from the bar type atmosphere of Phuket.

Absolutely lovely place.

And thanks for the recommendation of the Mercure in Krabi it was just brilliant for the five nights.

They even provided a birthday cake for my wife which was totally unexpected.

We undertook the usual shopping, walking, food and beer, shopping walking food and beer.....and the people over there are just great and friendly.

We used Air Asia X to go from Melbourne to KL and then AA to Krabi.

As usual Air Asia X was brilliant and we decided to lashout and pay for the premium seats.

They must be doing something right as they were all full each way and I noticed the Air Asia X CEO was on the return trip in the seat next to us (going to the F1 in Melbourne).

Brilliant trip and again thanks to all Tripadvisor members who provided us with the usual advice.

Anyone who uses a travel agent these days (and not Tripadvisor) are just throwing their money away!!!!

Take Care

Great to hear. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

We hadn't been down to the South of Thailand for years and years - until we went to Krabi in 2011.

We just loved it - and going back for our third trip soon.

Caroline.

My wife and I just got back from Ao Nang. We stayed at Mercure Krabi Deevena (spelling?) and liked it as well. Although, the breakfast was a bit on the pricey side.

Every time we go to Ao Nang, we eat at "Krua Thaya (after tsunami)" restaurant. It is at the end of Nopharathara beach. From Mercure, go to the main road and turn right and go all the way. At the stop sign, turn left. If you take a taxi, and he doesn't understand your accent, he might understand it if you say, "The restaurant with the two short ladies." It's close to the pier.

There used to be other restaurants there, but we noticed that only Krua Thaya seemed to be open these days. Fresh seafood and good Thai food at good prices.

Just a little correction. Krua Thara literally means Kitchen Thara when translated directly from Thai as it is located at the far end of Nopparat Thara Beach next door from Ao Nang Beach. A lot of Thai restaurants like to use the word 'Krua' meaning kitchen to name their restaurants. The 'after tsunami' on their signboard refers to information about the restaurant after the tsunami incident some years back. Just so you do not get confused. ;)

Chrella I am interested to know (after seeing a few posts where you declare your dislike of Krabi and surrounds) what it is that made you dislike the area?

Hi oztravelers1975,

We have just booked Airasia for April 2014 (sale fares - fabulous value!) and having been regularly to Phuket are considering going to Krabi with these flights. Could you tell me what the shopping is like - is it similar to Patong (markets, street stalls, shopping malls). Also when we were in Patong we generally eat at local street restaurants that are quite inexpensive - is there an abundance of restaurants in Krabi? Our last trip to Patong was at Christmas and we stayed for two weeks (longest we have spent there) - we loved it, but by the second week were over the constant doof doof at night .

Cheers,

Jen

Lots of places to eat and cheap as chips . Lots of shops , food stalls etc . but no shopping malls to speak off , those who have been to both places say its like Phuket was 20 years ago , we loved it and will b back April next year too ... Check your dates because as of April the 13th next year is the dates when all of Thailand celebrate with there water festival ... Check out you tube about that lol . Water water everywhere lol, while there is many bars etc , its more laid back and there is no real night club scene as such so no doof doof lol
