Flying into the U.S.

I am a US Citizen (female, 24 yrs old) and will be flying from Monterrey, Mexico to the Twin Cities at the end of July. I have two stuffed animals that travel with me at all times. A big stuff bear and then a stuff dog. I have been told if I try and bring them across the border they will be taken from me or cut up in fear that I am attempting to smuggle drugs into the US. Is this correct or will I be allowed to bring back two stuff animals, one rather large bear safetly? I do not want them to get cut up. Thank you for any and all help!

It is extremely unlikely that anything will happen to your stuffed animals but the U.S. customs authorities have absolute power and have the right to cut them up if they are suspicious. They are also entitled to detain you, strip-search or body-search you. Nobody can give you a 100% guarantee that you will be OK but most people are not bothered in this way.
