Peso / US dollar / gb pound

Can you please tell me whether or not we can use dollars in playa del Carmen have read that they don't like to exchange them anymore also that the British pound is not well liked also that you cannot pay departure tax in dollars or pound will be going in early march so any help would be really welcome

Pesos is the currency of Mexico so you can't go wrong if you have them. In most places you can also spend dollars but you generally lose money that way and, if you are from the UK, it makes no sense to exchange to dollars. Pounds can be exchanged freely at a cambio, bank or (usually) at your hotel; or you can exchange to pesos at home; or you can withdraw pesos from an ATM in Mexico with your UK debit card. Departure tax can always be paid in pesos or pounds and occasionally (but not always) in dollars.
