Off the beat and path

Looking for a place near or preferably on the beach but not touristy. Would be happy with a hut on beach with the locals. No idea on any area, suggestions appreciated. Open to any area as long as there's a beach, peace, and quiet. Thank you. ----30 something active but just wants to relax by myself.

Hello Hikergrl . . . have you been to Mexico before? This general Mexico forum doesn't receive many responses - best to post in the area where you are hoping to stay. Do you want the Pacific side or the Caribbean side? Do you know where you would fly into?

If going to Cancun, it sounds like Isla Holbox would be a good fit for you.

Or if you are flying to Puerto Vallarta, you might consider Yelapa:

Happy travels! :)

I have never been. In fact I've never done a beach vacation. I don't care what side I visit I just want a hammock, hut on beach with a local feel. Honestly I just want a beautiful beach away from tourist.

One place you might like is around Todos Santos.

I wasn't sure if you were using Alaska air or not . . . they don't fly directly into Cancun any longer, but you can use mileage. I prefer the Caribbean side of Mexico - the white sand beaches/turquoise water is truly amazing! We generally stay on an island called Isla Mujeres, but it sounds a bit busier than you want, hence the recommendations for Isla Holbox. Puerto Morelos may be a good fit as well.

On the Pacific side, I have only been to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita, which we did enjoy - it is a cool little surfer/hippy town, but Yelapa is even quieter.

Good luck - I have loved my Mexican vacations! :)
