Weekend Getaway

Hi, we're headed down to Ensenada for the first time in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have advice on some good eats, places to grab a beer and must do/see attractions? Thanks!

If you are intent on staying in Ensenada, I'd recommend either the La Pinta or Hotel Santa Ysabel. Both are walking distance (a few minutes max) from downtown and offer good, clean, inexpensive rooms with round-the-clock security. La Pinta has a great coffee shop, too, but Santa Ysabel only serves food at things like Sunday Brunch and the like. Cerveza? No shortage of places along the main drag (Lopez Mateos) for that, but stop in at Hussong's (ask anyone where it is...it's a couple of blocks off the main street) if you want to have a great time, any time. It's funky, and that's the draw, but it's not nasty. If you want to try something else, I'd suggest you stop and get a room at La Fonda Hotel, at the La Mision exit south of Rosarito. It's a funky hotel, to be sure, but not a wreck by any means. We've been going there for years and each room is unique. Dmitri and Sarah, the former owners, just sold it and the room prices went up. It's $125.00 a room for what they now call "bungalow" but what you get is still worth it. Fireplace, king-sized bed, patio, the works...and, it overlooks a really great beach. The restaurant and bar are fabulous and the prices very reasonable. Don't get the "kinda La Fonda" room, even tho it's the cheapest at $75.00. It's actually located a few doors north...
