Visiting Rosarita or Ensenada

If you could visit only one, which one would you recommend visiting and how safe do you feel it is for four females to be traveling?

Squid,

Any recommendations on moderately priced suites or by the day condos in downtown with kitchens? I'd even consider renting a house for few days but its hard to tell what they look like by the 2 or 3 pictures most put online.

Quintas Papagayo looks good online, but when you research it more it looks like a dive thats too far out of town to walk.

I agree with the difficulty of using orbitz, travelocity, etc. Also priceline and hotwire are a bust in Baja.

Thanks!

Ipegleg-

I have never stayed at Quintas Papagayo because it is located outside of town. I am also not sure about rooms with kitchens since I eat all my meals out I have never needed one. Most condo rentals are not located in the main tourist area (Avenida Lopez Mateos) so may not be with in easy walking distance to a lot of restaurants. We stay on Avenida Lopez Mateos since we enjoy bar & restaurant hopping. We like a place where we can park the car and not have to worry driving around after a few drinks.

I recommend Casa Del Sol or Posada El Rey Sol, they are both located in the middle of all the food and shopping, and they have suites. The El Cid isn’t bad, but I think the other 2 are better. I would not recommend Villa Fontana or Hotel Bahia.

Have you every heard of Hotel Las Dunas? It looks decent in is within walking distance of the downtown area. Rates look good and appears clean.

I don’t have any info on Hotel Las Dunas and there are no trip advisor reports for it.

Hi There,

Ensenada is a great place to visit and to live.. The beaches AREN'T IN THE CITY BUT FURTHER SOUTH. Perfectly safe to visit. a bit lower keyed than Rosarito. depends on what you like to do. Rosarito is more a party time. Ensenada has more of culture, party places. nice friendly people. I am a 27 year resident of Ensenada. Female . also work for a hotel If you don't want to drive,New service that many not aware of Mexicoach the big red bus from San Ysidro dirct to Ensenada. Take San Diego Trolley to the border station parking, then the Red Bus $26 RT and lets you off right in the heart of the tourist area. leaves every hour. Hotels fine from higher priced to cheapie. check out ensenadagazette.com

Ensenada of course but I am predjudiced living here for many years. very safe for walking, shopping and playing. It is a more low keyed town with friendly people and lots of local attractions such as the Blowhole, the wineries, Riviera Pacifico a former gambilng casino and local waterfront fisherman's market. . Rosarito's main street in my opinion is party party. beaches nice, Ensenada would be my choice for a fun pleasant visit. If you want to just party and not see the local attractions go to rosarito. for more info, write to me telisfora2@hotmail.com

Hi There.

definitely Ensenada for 4 ladies traveling alone. It is a quaint seacoast city with a lot of atmosphere. Rental cars that allow to mexico are Budget and hertz also. mexican Insurance if you drive your self is for the days that you will spend in mexico. Driving down is safe, take the toll road as your tolls insure roadside assitance and does cover some accidents while travling the toll road. read the fine print on the ticket you get from the toll booth.

Ensenada is a low keyed city, you can relax or party if you want to at the local pappas and beer, mango mango or Hussongs.

hotels also pricewise range from High priced to budget. check out ensenadagazette.com an on line newspaper.
