Rosarito border crossing.

How about coming back into the US? Is it a huge hassle, long delays, etc?

It depends on when and if you are walking or driving. You will be crossing in tj wait can be 15min up to 2 hours on Sunday's . Will you be walking or driving? What day will it be when you return Sunday's are one of the worst days.

From the San Diego Airport or downtown transit center you can catch a combination of local bus and trolley that will get you from San Diego to the San Ysidro/Tijuana border crossing.

You will be able to easily able to walk across the border into Mexico and Google map to a local bus station where you can take a clean, modern, regular schedule Greyhound style bus from Tijuana south to Rosarito (about $5US) or beyond. These busses depart every 30 minutes. It is a short walk beyond the McDonalds and plenty of people to ask for directions.

The bus will drop you off at a 7-11 along the toll road in Rosarito, and from there you can catch a local taxi ($3US to most places in Rosarito) or if you want, you can even walk to places like the La Paloma or the Rosarito Beach Hotel. It may seem confusing at first, but stand back and survey the scene... you will figure things out.

This area is well lit and populated; I have taken this option several times.
