Acapulco flight mystery??

A couple of years ago you used to be able to fly direct to Acapulco from NYC, Chicago, Phoenix, LA, Dallas, Denver and Houston. Now the only US direct flight is the Houston one. Does anybody know why this is? Would like to go, but not via Mexico City.

Thanks!

You'll get a better chance for a response on the Acapulco forum. Mex City airport is no more a nuisance than any other big airport and it is a bonus for a UK resident not to deal with US Immigration. There are some comments about flying through Mex City on the right hand side of this page in "Top Questions".

Are you flying from the UK? It's an incredible pain to transit the U.S. these days so BA via Mexico City is a good way. Even flying to MEX and getting the bus can save you a couple of hundred quid. Flights have soared by 30%+ though on this route so it's still expensive.

Yes, I think So. Due to the drug cartel troubles the cruise industry went from 875,000 passengers in 2008 to 275,000 in 2011. Catastrophic. So, I am assuming the airlines are having the same problem. Very sad since it is OUR drug use that causes the whole thing. Very sad.
