Zihuatanejo

Does anyone know if Zihuatanejo is the name of the Mexican town that Tim Robbins mentions to Morgan Freeman in the movie, Shawshank Redemption? Thanks, just curious.

Yes, it is although I am highly doubtful that last scenen was filmed there. I lived in Zihua for six months and we must have watched that movie 100 times and could not figure out where it was shot. We finally decided it was not shot in Zihua or outside of Zihua.

Zihuatanejo is an amazing, beautiful place. We love it so much we leave this Sunday for our fourth trip there!

And yes, that is where Andy was supposed to be at the end of The Shawshank Redemption....but it was filmed in St. Croix.

From here:

The second scene was the last scene of the movie. Red was walking on a beach toward his friend Andy while he worked on repairs to a boat on the beach. This scene was filmed at on the southwest point of the island of St.Croix in the US Virgin Islands.

Yes it was filmed in the Virgin Islands.

If you wish to visit from Acapulco it is but a bit over 4 hours via first class bus. Spend a night or 50 with a much different pace then Acapulco.
