Just Returned from Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan

My husband and I got back on the 2/26 and we had great weather and the hotel was very nice. When we checked in the lobby was pretty busy. The front desk guy who helped us told us he had to upgrade us to a suite because the hotel was so full of time share owners, which he did and it was very nice. One thing about the PB properties is they have a lot of Palm trees on the properties. Unfortunately they block the ocean views. We found that the 2nd floor and the 5th floor were best for not having the view blocked and if you can get a room between 2004-2007 or 5004-5007 for instance the view won't usually be blocked if that is important to you.Best way to prevent that is ask to view the room before packing your luggage up to the room. The resturant is very nice but expensive. We took a taxi $10US to the Mega Market and puchased our liquor (no liquor at the stores on Sunday),breakfast stuff eggs-bacon-bread-pastries. You have to get a tray and put your pastries and rolls on it and take it to the counter they will bag it up for you. You can get lunch meats, cheese, pretty much anything you want. Th PB has a nice kitchen area. We took a collapseable cooler but they have them there you can buy.You might want to throw in blue ice for your cooler and lots of zip-lock bags for ice for drinks and sandwiches. Remember you aren't in the states and they don't have clean safe to walk on streets(big holes and uneven sidewalks). If you want a good spot on the beach or at the pool be sure to get your towels on a chair by 6:30 a.m. PB hasa nice Deli and Internet Cafe, good lattes but also coffee maker, micro. Take insulated drinking cup for hot and cold.

Binoculars are a must. The pigeons are very brave they will walk right in to your room if you leave the screen on the balcony open. Nice place and friendly staff. When you get to the airport and you pick up your luggage and you don't want to deal with the timeshare people ( they are relentless). Go directly to the outside and look for a booth. Just say no thank you to all the people that try to get you to stop they will say things like,"What hotel are you staying atl, you need to talk to this guy". NO NO NO. Go out to the ticket booth the lady will sell you your ticket for your taxi and it will be about $25US.

Nice report about PB Mazatlan. I suggest you cut and paste it to the "write a review" site.

Portland, thanks for the TR. We'll be heading down in two weeks and are curious to know whether the shrimp man is still there on the beach every morning? Glad you had a good trip.

Shrimp guys on the beach......

What I know for sure is that Rico and a friend sell shrimp at the Inn at Mazatlan from seven in the morning for a couple of hours. Another guy starts at Las Flores at seven, and works his way up the beach. He is at El Quijote between nine and nine thirty, which is not very far south of PBM. I do not know whether he makes it to PBM, but others have said someone does!

You pay a bit more for the shrimp, but we have never, ever, been disappointed in six years, which is far from the truth with the shrimp ladies and elsewhere. The beach guys claim they get their shrimp "fresh off the boat" each day....I know, sounds like the "almost free" thing. Whatever, they are good!

Oh, every day except Sunday......

We are across the street from PB Maz at Bungalows MarSol. Jose comes

every day except Sunday with medium and large shrimp. He usually

arrives around 10AM. Always fresh and always delicious. Nice not to have to clean them. Only 25 days left, then home to bbbrrrrrrrrrrr. It;s been a great

winter!!!!!

Enjoyed reading your trip report, Portland. Funny, but this time I am planning on bringing my Bubba Keg - huge insulated drink mug - and a collapsible wheeled cooler, just so I can safely escort some cold stuff back to my suite from the grocery, and possibly even from the Shrimp Ladies.
