Wearing White in Winter

We will be in Mexico from Feb 4 thru Feb 25th. One week in Cabo and two weeks in Mazatlan. Do the ladies wear white shorts and white capri's in Feb. Or is it like the US - a big no no?

That is too funny! I didn't know anyone anywhere really adhered to that rule. Show how much I know!

When I lived in Texas, we wore white uniforms at my job so I guess we were out of style.

Seriously,

It WAS a fashion faux pas to wear white after Labour day and before the May long weekend. Then *Winter white* came into vogue and believe me.....you can wear white, ANY white, wherever and whenever you want to.

Except at someone elses wedding of course. LOL!

I have to get my 2 cents in here! Of course you can wear white... But...it depends if you want to stand out as a tourist or blend in more with the local Mexican people. I just got home a week ago. We stayed in El Centro, walked, rode buses and tried to blend in. It is their winter and trust me, the Mexican women aren't wearing white. I also noticed that most of the Mexican women don't even wear sandals this time of year. I really picked up on this in places like the casino or dining in the plaza Machado or walking through the Gran Plaza shopping centre. But hey, as tourists we can wear whatever we like, to us it's warm and we're just happy to be here.

Thank you travelplanner. This is the information that I was wondering about. We have been to Mazatlan about 8 times, but never in the winter. I know in some vacation areas people don't wear white in the winter.

I believe that only men's wearing of white shoes between Labor Day and Memorial Day (in the U.S.) is still considered by east coast "high society" to be a fashion faux pax.

Wearing of white, even white shoes, only in the summer has never been a part of the Mexican culture. The traditional costume of the campesino - farm worker - has always been white the year around (mostly only in the south of México now, though).
