PB Emerald Bay Timeshare Push

We will be staying at the PB EB in February and wondering how aggressive they are with their timeshare sales push. We are not at all interested in attending a timeshare presentation but rumor has it that you can't get the keys to your room unless you "visit" with these people. Are these timeshare people as awful as I have been hearing and is there a way to avoid this whole deal upon arrival? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Last time we were at P. B. Emerald Bay ( May 2011) we had no problem getting our keys or being left alone after telling them politely "no thank you" when asked if we would like to attend the informative breakfast.

There are some very cheap deals offered to some of the travel companies that include having to attend a timeshare presentation. Maybe this is what you have been hearing about, if someone signed up to get a $199 room by agreeing to attend they shouldn't whine about it if they are expected to keep their end of the bargain.

I doubt anything has changed much since we were there, P.B. has always been one of the less high pressure presentations in Mazatlan.

When we stayed at the Pueblo Bonito (not EB) recently, they made us go through the timeshare desk to get our keys. The desk was pushing a tour and presentation at the sister resort of PBEB. However, they did not insist that we attend the timeshare presentation at Emerald Bay to get our keys. They merely gave us a short sales pitch to try to get us to agree to it, which we eventually did for a resort food credit of $200 US. I'm sure an emphatic "No gracias!" will get you your keys without going to the presentation.

BTW, the sales presentation at PBEB is one of the less high pressure pitches. The sales rep will definitely change from friendly to indignant once you make it clear that you are not buying, but they don't hesitate to give you your "reward" and move on. It's definitely a beautiful resort and one worth seeing if you haven't already, but wouldn't recommend buying anything - they have not met their commitments to develop amenities - no golf course 10 years later... And you can buy dozens of PBEB units on the resale market for next to nothing.

I totally agree with Coleone. Very low pressure - even the presentation. The best I have ever been on. As I've noted in many other posts, we attended the presentation and got the AI for $45/day with the 7th day free so it worked out to $38/day which was a great deal for us and well worth it.

We did PBEB on our first trip to Mazatlan 3 years ago. We checked in after the TS sales people went home. We went out an about early and when we came back they hit us up for a pitch. We negotiated $350 in food credit plus several discounted tours. At that time the food credit was only good at their main restaurant and did not include their Fiesta Night. We do a lot of TS/Vacation Club sales presentation and found PBEB to be the lowest pressure pitch we’ve had in Mexico. It was a nice stroll around the grounds. We probably have spent the same amount of time walking around the Resort on our own.

Bottom line, they will take No with out much of a fuss. You need to watch out for the TS Shark at the restaurants around Mazatlan. They can get aggressive.

In a number of stays at PBM and PBEB we have never felt pressured into anything. We have attended the PBEB presentation a few times and will most definitely concur with prior posters that PB presentations are rather low key compared to some.

BTW, the PBEB resort is indeed beautiful and should you get a pitch to see it, if you have not been, take it and don't fret about high pressure tactics. Of course they want you to purchase.

Have fun and enjoy Mazatlan!
