Any PBEB owners have RCI?

We are timeshare owners at PBEB and we wantd to purchase a week at a different resort in Mazatlan through RCI, but the PB specialist they connect you with says that you can not purchase extra vacations week at any of the Mazatlan properties if you are a Mazatlan timeshare owner. ??? I have seen that some of the properties have a statement about other Mazatlan time share property ownder not being able to purchase extra but not all of them. I feel like the RCI PB rep just might steer us in the PB direction only, so I thought I would ask here. And yes, I already know about the timeshare forums, but this is specific to Pueblo Bonito and their property locations. Thank you.

Was your RCI membership included with your timeshare purchase? A lot of resorts do that now ( and you'll know if you don't pay RCI fees that it was )

If I want to go somewhere else in Mazatlan,I can't through RCI but of course I could if I booked it independently.

Usually you are limited to your base resort in the city of purchase. You can get extra bonus weeks etc. through RCI but it has to be at your home resort.

Thanks Gillian. Yes we have RCI, but the communication is contradicting from PB represerntatives and the RCI representatives when I call them to ask questions. So I am not sure what is accurate and I dont want to get stuck with travel plans that get cancelled etc.

We wanted to extend our next visit by a week either before or after, so I am looking at our options. If we can not book an extra vacation to extend our Mazatlan stay, say at one of the El Cid properties, then I guess I will just have to ask one of the owners there to purchase and extra vacation for me and pay them, even if I would need to also pay a guest certificate fee. The rules are often silly because there are always ways to work around them.

At one time if you owned a time share in Mazatlan you couldn't trade for a different resort. This was to prevent people from buying a cheap unit in a lesser building, then banking every year to trade for an expensive top of the line resort.

At one point we found at least some resorts would allow you to trade for another resort in your home time share location, but only once every four years. We stayed at PB Maz that way once. Now I'm not sure if that still applies, of if the four year rule was only enforced by some resorts. In any case it doesn't apply in one circumstance.

I've gone down to Mazatlan a few times in the last few years at the last minute. A short as a 10 days or so, and called RCI to see what was available. They have, or at least had, a program especially for last minute exchanges or puchasing a week. I believe no more than 45 days prior to your travel dates.

The location wasn't limited or connected to where your home unit is...just whatever was available. I've ended up in the Holiday Inn and the Pueblo within months of each other, but don't own at either location. I could have also stayed at El Cid on one of those occasions.

If those rules are still in effect that could be part of the confusion. Perhaps PBEB is unaware of the last minute possiblities. Or the dates you discussed with them are too far in advace for it to be a relevant option for you ?

Yes, AquaMaz, I think they are called Last Minute Vacations by RCI. They offer great prices, but unfortunately it's hard to make plane reservations in advance if you don't know your exact travel dates.

For something like 10 days and your room is not so important as far as spending much time in it there are GREAT prices. I have never paid so low. And part of the reason for Maz is because there are still multiple flight options from the USA.

Of course the reason for this is due to all the lost biz cuz of the bad press. I'm paying less than $1000 for 21 days, flight and hotel. I booked many months ago but still this is a great price.

I'm not going to say the hotel because I'm sure they are not happy to be exploited publicly because of the misfortune thrown on them, but if you msg me and I recoginze your ID from here I will be glad to tell you.

We have used the extra vacations through RCI to stay at; El Cid Marina & the Inn at Mazatlan in the very recent past, unless something has changed I don't know why the rep. would have told you that you couldn't.

I do know you can not use the yearly week / weeks you own to book a different resort in Mazatlan through RCI.

I am a timeshare owner and when I traded my timeshare to El Cid Marina, I did see a note on the bottem saying "•Timeshare owners in Mazatlan are not allowed to book into this resort" I was wondering what that meant but now I know.

Costa de Oro Beach Club does not say that though so that resort might be ok

If you are a timeshare owner at any PB resort (Mazatlan or Cabo) and belong to RCI you can only book an EXTRA WEEK thru RCI's (Extra vacation) or Last Call at your PB resort where you are owners or in Cabo they include their sister resorts also. That is the rule for Pueblo Bonito owners. We also own another timeshare at a different resort in Cabo and they also won't let you trade thru RCI to another resort in Cabo. They want your business.

I will also add that you can only pick up a STUDIO/JR Suite at PB's on a last/extra vacation thru RCI even if a 1 bed or larger is available. We have owned for about 4 years now at PBEB and we are still finding these little "rules" out. We do prefer PB's and really wouldn't stay anywhere else, but if we needed a larger room for more people and El Cids has one we are out of luck.

I will also add if you are banking your unit with RCI you can pull out anything you want if it is available (however only PB in Mazatlan).

I am only guessing what the unknown is next we will discover with owning a timeshare. It keeps you on your toes that is for sure.
