Bus Questions

Hey! First timers staying at the Marriott Casa Magna Easter week, and we've gathered the busses (along with everything else) will be very busy. Still, if we take the bus downtown from the Marina area (by our hotel), how often do the busses run? Will the "centro" bus take us all the way in or do we have to make any bus changes en route? On the way back, will the bus be marked as going to the Marina area? Also, how often does the bus from the southside terminal leave for El Tuito? What about the return trip? Thanks!

Buses ran several times an hour. Blue bus marked "Centro" into town and coming back "Marina" it will also have the names of the hotels on the window coming back. Any blue bus will go down the main road coming back but if it is not a Marina bus, it does not turn into the marina hotel zone and you will have about a 1/2 mile walk back to the Marina hotels from the main road.

just got back from PV saturday...our first time as well..the busses run constantly(every 5 minutes)..they will say on the front window where they are going..most all go into the town..they will say centro..you can always ask the bus driver they will say if they are going into town. Coming back to hotel will say either "hotels" or "marina" again just ask the driver..a pocket spanish dictionary helped me..but most understand some english. also you can ask at the hotel where you are staying where to catch the bus into town..hopes this helps a little!! the busses are busy all the time by the looks of it!

Last time we were in PV the buses did a strange thing. We, too, stayed in the Marina area and will be doing so again the first week in May.

Sometimes the ones marked Centro went all the way in, but other times they stopped at the north edge of el centro, and we had to either walk or take a cab in the rest of the way.

Is there a pattern to it?

For example, we'll want to take a bus to the Malecon on Saturday or Sunday to see the festivities, and the Papantia Flyers. Will be bus go all the way in?

Thanks.

Evanston,

When were you here last?

I ask this because during Easter and part of December the buses cannot enter downtown and have to stop around the PeMex gas station and turn around. If it was during this time, that was the reason they did not go through town.

We're staying at the Westin in the Marina area for a wedding at the end of April, and i was wondering also, about how far from downtown will we be, staying in the marina area? Will it be feasible to go to the downtown? How far is it from the Marina area? (This will be our first trip, so we don't really know what to expect in terms of size of PV)From all i've heard, we're going to want to hit up the macelon (sp?)...we'd be able to do that, right? Sorry if this is a silly question!

Except as bzy1 mentioned, when they close downtown during big holidays, the bus FROM the Marina, that serves all the Marina hotels, only goes to downtown and the south side.

Coming back you need to look for the bus that has "Marina" in the display above the driver's window.

The El Tuito bus leaves every half hour in the morning and late afternoon (when workers are travelling) and every hour around midday. They turn around in the plaza in El Tuito.

Thanks for the info...and JR, thanks for the El Tuito bus information (as well as the maps/bus info posted on your site). With only 3 1/2 days in PV, we're still trying to decide if we'll want to visit El Tuito or San Sebastian...or try to squeeze in both...

You really can't travel by bus to San Sebastian and back in one day, only 2 busses in the morning and two in the afternoon. By the time you get there, it would be time to catch the bus back.

No problem catching the bus, they run frequently and stop in front of the Hotels. It takes 20 minutes or so to get downtown. You will know you are in old town when you have crossed over the bridge. Heading back to the Marina watch the hotels that are listed on the windshield of the bus. If your not sure just ask the driver if he goes past your hotel before you get on the bus. IF you take a bus to dinner plan on a cab back as the busses do not go out to the Marina late in the evening.

That's a good point, and it's likely that after dinner that's what we'd probably do. But does anybody know just how late they DO run back to the Marina Hotels?
