1. Re: reliable dentist

I've been going to my dentist here for 20 years.

Not too much over that time, as he's good. He has a web site here:

I totally agree with JR. They are very good and helped me out in an emergency this past June. However, they are quite expensive. I wouldn't plan on waiting to have discretionary work done in Mexico hoping it will be cheaper. Not necessarily.

First, if a duplicate post shows up, sorry. As has been noted, this site has been a bit quirky today. Maintenance, or gremlins or something.

Anyway, trying not to repeat. Thanks to JR's and others' recommendation I went to this practice (at Plaza Marina) in June of this past year and was very grateful that it was there. I needed emergency care and they took me and helped me same day. State-of-the-art facility, nice people, English spoken--native in some cases. What they charged me was fine, fair, and in some cases (my X-ray) much cheaper than I would have paid in Canada. They even accept Canadian and American cheques in addition to cash at no penalty (no credit cards though)...). Good for them because it takes about a month for foreign cheques to clear :)

One caveat though. I was so impressed with my emergency visit that I asked for a consultation with a specialist in the same practice (ok, I have bad gums) and he recommended me a program (and a corresponding price) which, while fair, was "the mostest", not the most necessary. I had kind've a sinking feeling that I needed to get a second opinion. And I did. I saw my peridontist in Canada who said I didn't need all of that right now. Also that the prices were about what they charge here in Canada. I still have a sinking feeling that I was being charged "tourist prices". ($4,000 US dollars is not small change for me and it looked as though they thought that $4,000 is indeed small change for anyone who lives in the US and Canada.)

Anyway, my message is: Don't postpone discretionary dental work (til next February) thinking that it'll be cheaper in Mexico, without research.

I had my periodontal surgery on my entire mouth done, with bone grafts, in Bucerias last spring for $1,750.00 USD. (My periodontist here in Illinois wanted $4000.00 and my dental insurance would only pay $450.00.) The dentist I use has a periodontist come to Bucerias a couple of days a week to treat the patients who need gum surgery. It was so nice that I didn't even have to go into PV and I think she did a great job.

Our Dentist is Dr. Silvia Contreras Perez. She is across the street from the Sheraton hotel. Not a fancy office but clean, modern equipment. When We first went there 2 years ago I was a little apprehensive. A American who has lived in PV for over 10 years walked out of here office and said. Don't worry Silva will take very good care of you. We have be going to her every since. We love her work and her as a person. She speaks English well enough to communicate with you.

Her number is 22 2 18 20.

Tell her Jeri from Sedona Arizona recommended her.

We find her prices very good and feel that they paid for our trip
