Things of interest in PV and surrounding area

We will be taking our grandson on a trip to celebrate his high school graduation, and want to suggest PV to him. His main interest is sports, but there's a lot of history in the area, a lot of fun things to see and do, and I'm wanting to spark his interest.

Any help you can be will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

p.s. we love PV and have been there several times, so am hoping we can interest him in it!

Hi EvanstonJs - as well as all the responses I am sure you will receive, here are just a few sites you can visit that contain a wealth of info on PV:

http://vallarta-info.com/index.html

or

visitpuertovallarta.com/puertovallarta/enter…

am sure you will have no problem "sparking" his interest ;)

Take him to the Sports Stadium on a Saturday or Sunday, then you can take him on a Zip Line Canopy Tour, that's pretty 'sporting' or on The Outdoor Adventure, which is a bit more challenging.

Both sound like good ideas. What sports would be likely to be going on at the stadium in June or July?

It will be soccer and baseball at the stadium, think they have some basketball courts as well.

Are we talking about games being played (team sports going on)? Or are they sports facilities that are available?

If he is in to surfing or wanting to try, take the bus up to Sayulita for the day. Great beach, lots of restaurants, boogie and surf board rentals, and a lot of people to watch. Good people watching and a nice, cheap bus ride. You can get the Sayulita bus at the bus stop closest to VIP's at Walmart in across from the Marine terminal.

Friscodana hit the nail on the head. Especially if you dont live near an ocean- it could be a great experience for him to try surfboarding or boggie boarding.

If its history/culture you are looking- one thing we always enjoy are the shops with the Huichol Indians working on their art. Each shape has a certain meaning and can be very interesting. If you are lucky you may even catch the Voladores- they spin from just a rope, hanging upside down from a very tall pole.

Some background on that if it helps- from Wikipedia-

Five men, each representing the five elements of the indigenous world climb atop a pole, one of them stays on the pole playing a flute and dancing while the remaining four descend the pole with a rope tied by one of their feet. The rope unwraps itself 13 times for each of the four flyers, symbolizing the 52 weeks of the year.

According to legend, a long drought covered the Earth so five men decided to send Xipe Totec, the God of fertility a message, asking them for the rain to return. They went to the forest and looked for the straightest tree, cut it, and took it back to their town. They removed all branches and placed it on the ground, then dressed themselves as feet/birds and descended flying attempting to grab their God's attention.

He might also enjoy El Eden up in the jungle where you can eat, hang out, and swing on a rope into a pool of water that forms from the mountains above. Kind of every kids fantasy and most never get to do it. It's very safe. Heck I did it with my kids in my 40's! They also has a rock slide too.

re: Sports Stadium, it's possible he could get into a 'pick-up' game on Saturdays, morning is best for that.
