Barcelo vs Riu Vallerta?

Hello! We are planning to go for 5 days in July, and we've pretty much narrowed it down between the Barcelo and the Riu Vallerta. Has anybody been to both and have any opinions? Thanks!

The Barcelo is 20-30 mins south of PV and the Riu Vallarta is 45+ mins north in Nuevo.

Rooms: Nicer accommodations at Riu Vallarta, bigger suites with separate bedrooms and Barcelo.

Food/All-Inclusive: Riu Vallarta all day buffet plus unlimited ala carte dining for dinner and more dining options; Barcelo has 2 plans 1 with buffet and limited ala carte dining depending on how long your staying, club level included buffet and unlimited ala carte dinners.

Beach: Barcelo small beach almost non existant but 2 huge pool area that make up for the lack of beach; Riu Vallarta huge beach that you can walk for miles and also nice pool area.

The adder at Riu Vallarta is you can also take advantage of restaurants, pools, beach and facilities ad the Riu Jalisco.

The minus at Barcelo is they again have had a lot of reports of illness from food or the unknow.

If you want to experience PV why not consider a hotel closer or intown? There are plenty all-inclusives to choose from in the same price range.

The Barcelo bug seems to have cleared... it seems to be seasonal coming late Jan early Feb. We are going in June and very much look forward to being away from it all. We'll take the bus into PV for site seeing. We'd much rather be in the jungle than a town. But that is us.

Barcelo has NO adult pool so you get tons of screaming kids in all the pools. If there was just an adult pool this is the resort I would go back to but not to be. We go to Royal Decameron and enjoy that better

July will be very hot and very humid. It will also be the summer rainy season. There will still be lots of daytime sun but you will see late afternoon and evening thunderstroms just about every day. The rain will actually offer a slight break from the humidity.

I agree with the earlier poster about the "sickness" problems being cleared up. Have not noticed any recent reviews mentioning it.

IMO for 5 days, I would take the Barcelo but for a longer stay would opt for the RIU as it offers more options. i

We just booked for July. After a ton of research the consensus was that the Riu was the better and safer choice. The food is supposedly superior to Barcelo, as are the in room alcohol dispensers and alcohol served at the bar.

Enjoy your trip to Nuevo Vallarta. Try to get into PV so you can say you were actually there. (-:

Riu probably a better choice and the beach is amazing. Try to walk the beach into Bucerias and also down to the Playa Royale. Make sure to explore the region. So much to do and so little time!
