The Royal Decameron is not in PV, it's in Nuevo Vallarta 45 min north of PV, try the Nuevo Vallarta or Bucerias forum. :)

The Royal Decameron resort is in Bucerias (not Nuevo Vallarta, JR), so that would be the best forum to check.

That said, I never see anyone surfing here in Bucerias.

Welcome to the TripAdvisor!

I don't believe that you can surf inside the Bay of Banderas. You can take the bus north of town to Sayulita, which is known as a surfing mecca. Be sure to check the TripAdvisor's Sayulita Forum for surfing info.

South Bucerias is almost the same as north Nuevo Vallarta, at least Bucerias is a real town :)

Yup, the Royal Decameron was 'in' Bucerias when we stayed there (way back in spring 2003) ... but can't recall ever seeing any surfing there, or in Nuevo Vallarta to the south.

Have watched a good bit of 'boarding' in Puerto Vallarta though ... especially off Los Muertos beach at/near the mouth of the Rio Cuale.

Villa del Palmar Flamingos is in Nuevo Vallarta 1/2 mile south of the Decameron. Close enough for government work :)

It doesn't matter how close it is, especially if you take the bus. You can't get to Bucerias on the Nuevo Vallarta bus (the fancy ATM ones with the comfy seats, which say Riviera Nayarit on them) and you can't get to Nuevo Vallarta on the Bucerias bus --- either the green/white Compostela or the ATM on its way to Punta Mita..

Those bus routes do not speak to each other. Royal Decameron is in Bucerias and, if going on a bus, get off at the first stop light at the OXXO. There is an overhang which says "Royal Decameron" right by the OXXO. Get off there.

To say Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerias are the same would confuse many people trying to take transportation. Yeh, you can walk the beach between the two (from Villa del Palmar Flamingos to Royal Decameron, IF YOU ARE HEALTHY) but the transportation systems to both are completely different.
