Best Beach Near Aquaventuras Park

My family of 6 is coming to PV for one day on a cruise in November. My husband and I have done a land vacation in PV once before. We want to take the kids swimming with dolphins at Aquaventuras park because that seems like the cheapest option. We were thinking that we would take a cab from the cruise terminal to Aquaventuras then take another cab to the nearest beach when we are done swimming with the dolphins. We are not planning on booking ahead of time. Per reviews, it seems to be cheaper if you just show up. According to their website, the waterpark will be closed on the day we are there. (It's only open Wed-Sun and we will be there Tuesday. The Dolphin Swim is open every day). Any suggestions for which beach to ask a cab driver to take us to based on proximity to the cruise terminal or water park? Any other suggestions based on our current plans for the day? Thanks!

Is that waterpark near Nuevo Vallarta? If so, possibly have your beach time in Bucerias which is nearby and has a nice beach with beachfront restaurants. Not very familiar with that area, so hopefully someone who is will chime in.

The nearest beach is on the south side of the Nuevo Vallarta marina inlet. It's in the vicinity of the Mayan Palace.

Bucerias is a good option, too.

Hello LilleHeidi,

The Acquaventuras Water Park is located at the south end of Nuevo Vallarta (from PV heading north, it's the first Nuevo Vallarta exit off Highway 200, and is on the east side of the highway). Nuevo has awesome beaches, but for those not staying in a beachfront resort or condo complex there are only three public access points to the beach. I have listed them below, from south to north:

NV PUBLIC ACCESS POINT #1: Between the Vela Vista & Ocean Vista condo complexes. There are nearby restaurant options located along the marina near the beach access point, but not directly on the beach. These restaurants with lovely marina and/or river views can be easily walked to and include Eddie's Nopal Beach, Por Que No?, Porto Bello, Prime 159, etc. In this marina area there is also an OXXO (it's just like a 7-11 convenience store) where you can get cold beverages and snacks to take to the beach. Do note that Vallarta Adventures' swim-with-the-dolphins facility (Vallarta Adventures is a very wonderful and professional tour operator in NV and PV) is located right there, within walking distance, in this very same portion of the marina area.

NV PUBLIC ACCESS POINT #2: Between the Kite Towers condo complex and the ETC Beach Club (Restaurant/Bar). The ETC menu has a variety of appetizers and entrees. A guacamole appetizer is under $7 USD, chicken and beef fajitas are about $9.50 USD, and shrimp entrees start at about $10.50 USD. Beer is about $2.50 USD, lemonade or soda is less than $2 USD.

NV PUBLIC ACCESS POINT #3: This is by the Marival AI Resort. Just look for the big orange sign with raised silver lettering and logo that says Marival, and a yellow-bar lift gate where there is a guard shack in front of a very small parking lot. The vehicle parking fee is about $3 USD. At this public access point you will find a lovely beachfront swimming pool that is open to the public for a nominal fee. Right behind the swimming pool area there is a small restaurant/bar that is also open to the public. (Another option is to purchase a day pass to the beautiful and sprawling Marival resort. For more information you can call the Marival directly at 011.52.322.226.8200, as day-pass pricing depends on the season.)

MY RECOMMENDATION - BUCERIAS: With your limited time in the area, I highly recommend that after you are finished with your swim-with-the-dolphins excursion, you take a taxi to Bucerias, which is the cute and lively Mexican beach town just a tad north of Nuevo Vallarta. Ask to be dropped off by the town square. There you will find numerous restaurant choices, including plenty of beachfront eateries where you can enjoy dining and sipping cool beverages with your feet in the sand. And right along the southern end of the town square is a large open-air flea market where you can find plenty of sweet and colorful Mexican souvenirs.

Have fun on your upcoming vacation!
