Saftey in the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico

We are considering staying at a house in the beachfront community of Plava Litibu at the end of March/beginning of April. The house and the area seem wonderful. Its about a 45 minute drive from the airport at Puerto Vallarta. Any comments on the saftey of the drive (during the day) and generally in that community of Mexico?

From what I have read, it seems okay. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Thank you

You'll likely get more responses if you post on the Punta de Mita forum. See this recent thread:

Litibu is accessed via a well-traveled, paved road that runs from Punta Mita to Sayulita. We drive in that area all the time, and have never had any safety concerns.

Big - no huge - speed bumps on the road is about the only danger out there.

Litibu is very high end, many celebrities stay in that area in Villas- there are no safety issues what-so-ever in the area nor the drive from the airport to Litibu. It is a beautiful area and I am sure you will love it.

I agree with what has been said about safety. Just make sure you have good directions to the house you are staying at. Playa Litibu is in from the village of Higuera Blanca so you have to drive through it. Not hard but not dead obvious either in some cases. Get them to give you a map.

Great area :)

In Jamaica they're called "silent policemen" .. most appropriate!!

I've also heard some Jamaicans call them "sleeping policemen". :-)

Seriously though. Playa Litibu is a nice community. Some high end, some just folks. You need to know exactly where you are going or you will get lost.

We are the next beach over and we would need the same kind of detailed directions.

Best!
