The least stressful way is to head on the cuota NE towards Lagos de Moreno and then turn off on the 45D to Leon just before you get there. Follow that road south past Leon, past Guanajuato on to Celaya and then Queretaro where you join the 57 heading towards Mexico City. Exit around km 90 onto the Arco Norte signed to Puebla and follow that all the way round Mexico City until you join the main Mexico City-Puebla cuota. It's expensive but traffic-free.

An alternative is to head down the cuota towards Morelia and cut across east through La Piedad but although shorter it's really not any quicker.

If you're doing this in one day then leave as early as you can.

From the Queretaro (where 57 meets arco norte) entronque to Texmelucan it is 275 pesos, and well worth it.
