3 days in SCDC New year's Eve onwards...

We'll be arriving in SCDC from Tuxtla airport on NYE. Are there direct Ado buses from airport to SCDC? We'll love to visit some of the neigbouring villages with indigenous people and their colourful culture. How do we do that if we don't have a car and no intention to rent one as we can't speak Spanish? Should we get a taxi and visit at our own pace ? Can we get a taxi back easily from these villages? Was thinking of day tours but don't really like the idea of sticking to a big group throughout the excursion which I assume most will be conducted that way unless they go in very small groups...if so any recommendations?.And what's the weather and temperature going to be like during these period? What's the NYE and New year celebrations like here? Will new year day be quiet? What kind of sight seeing could we do as I imagine lots of places will be closed? Will greatly appreciate some suggestions...

ADO offers 9:00, 13:00, 16:00, 19:00, 20:30 buses from the airport to San Cristobal. You can search the ADO website for details - http://www.ado.com.mx/. Use Angel Albino Corzo as the starting point. The cost is $194 pesos. Time in transit is listed as 2 hours. If your group is large, a taxi will be faster and may be as cost efficient. Expect to pay $500-$600 pesos for a taxi ride, but it will take half as much time. Taxis can be caught at the exit of the airport.

I suggest you take a tour to the local villages. There is a tour that you can do simply by showing up at the wooden cross in front of the church at 9:30. The tour is a few hours. The guides are excellent and can explain things that you wouldn't understand without a tour, and not speaking spanish. The groups are not huge, whatever can fit in a small van.

I can't help with your other questions other than to search some of the weather websites, accuweather or wunderground should have details and averages.

We spent some days in July touring villages with Alex from Cielo y Tierra Tours. If you are interested in visiting surrounding villages with a friendly professional guide, I would recommend booking a tour with Alex....I think he is related to the company that Peter826 recommends in the post below. Have fun. San Cristobal is my new favourite place!
