Hotel Theft?

Ok, one of those mindless questions to ponder.

Is it stealing, if one is to take the bathroom amenities

from the Hotel when leaving?

Particularly that expensive designer soap, conditioner

and of course the highly expensive and rare specialty

known as Cancun Shampoo.

And, if it is, could the Hotel have you arrested for

Shampoo theft?

I've often smuggled the shampoo out of the country

after the theft, even the new, unused bottles. My wife

thinks I'm crazy but is this akin to pilfering rocks from

Chichen Itza.

I must make a confession

I smuggled a half smoked cigar home along with 2 bottles of shampoo 2 soaps and a shower cap.

You can guess the kind of cigar.

I'll plead the fifth on the cigar issue.

However, one time I did smuggle a gal named Monica

into Mexico.

Don't guess it's the same habana.

When I was young (many, many years ago) I worked in a Holiday Inn. The soap and shampoos were put in the rooms for the guests use. If they took them home, the hotel I worked for was fine with that. Basically it was free advertising once the little shampoo bottle left the premises. I know people that have little bottles lined up in their bathrooms and you can see every place they have ever visited.

Now would it be considered stealing in Cancun, your guess is as good as mine.

No, it's built into your room rate.

In Vegas if you tip them well, sometimes you get the amenities they leave in the suites and villas - the good stuff.

FYI ladies, those showercaps make great shoecovers when you are packing.

The shower cap/shoecover thing is the most helpful advice I've heard all day!

Dangers

You only pilfered the packaging. Those meticulous Mexicans expected you to use what was in the wrappings & containers. Uh, you did actually use soap & shampoo, didn't you? You did not board your return flight in a smelly state of mind, did you?

AQ, nah we brought our own and stole theirs.

Plenty clean on the flight home, finished off about a

half a bottle of the Foggy Mountain Shampoo and left

granny's lye soap for the maid. (left a note of course)

Figured they owed me that much after all the road kill

they were serving at the AI. Those Yucatan deer just

aren't as tender as SJ deer.

Besides, my best friend is married to a Mexican gal that

use to work in the hotel industry. We use the stuff as

Xmas gifts for her, sometimes she pays us back,

sometimes she doesn't.

But what the heck, we stole it from the hotel anyway.

The Hotel wasn't happy about me trying to get away with

the robe though they let me keep the slippers and the

towel furbee.

We took the slippers, when we got home one slipper was about a size 9 and the other a ladies 7....so much for theft. Not many hotels even give you post cards, stationary or a pen anymore.
